My Research Question- How does Uneven Public-School Funding and School Districts inability to retain Qualified teachers Complicate American Education? And What are some Solutions to these Problems?

Scholarly source 2

“Teacher Retention: Preventing Teacher Turnover.” School of Education Online, 19 Nov. 2022, https://soeonline.american.edu/blog/teacher-retention/.

The authors are asking why is retaining qualified teachers so important? And what is causing this high turnover? There answer is that due to extremely high levels of burnout with the profession teachers are calling it quits, add on top of that many teachers not being paid well enough and low respect from Parents. They also state schools HAVE to retain there qualified teachers because it's even more costly hiring and training new ones which creates another cycle, and that higher teacher retention leads to more money for other programs for student development. Their evidence includes polls from the National Education Association (NEA) which surveyed teachers on their happiness and general work conditions. The Authors would argue against anyone that says teacher retention is not important.

This article helped me Put my thoughts about teacher retention from the other sources all together as it best explained why teacher turnover and schools' inability to retain qualified teachers makes other Parts of the Education system complicated. For example, the article states, “High turnover rates create constant flux, making it significantly more difficult to institute changes in education policies. Experienced teachers who are familiar with the needs of a school and its students are best poised to provide advice on how to meet those needs. When they leave, these voices are lost, and education policy suffers.” In other words, qualified teachers with experience in the field are extremely important and when they leave it creates a constant problem of not having experienced teachers to advocate for teachers' rights, making the situation even more complicated. In my opinion the best way to fix this is possibly create an even stronger union then what teachers currently have and advocate more aggresivly to each school district to make teacher retention a priority.
